While working in the Hadlock Lab as a Data Scientist, Basazin developed knowledge graphs from longitudinal clinical phenotype and drug exposures. He was a part of the NIH NCATS Biomedical Data Translator Consortium. Before joining ISB, Basazin obtained a BS in Bioengineering in 2020 from the University of Washington, and then completed a data science apprenticeship and worked as a Data Analyst at the University of Virginia.

Basazin went on to work as a Data Scientist II with Novavax.
